NDS seeks law student interns to join the Civil Defense Practice in Summer 2021. The Civil Defense Practice plays an integral role in NDS’s fulfillment of its holistic mission. The practice works to prevent the destabilization that befalls clients and their families due to the harsh civil consequences of contact with the criminal justice and family court systems through affirmative and defensive representation in housing, employment, forfeiture, reentry services and other collateral consequences matters. Interns assist attorneys in all aspect of client representation, including client intake, legal research and writing, and direct client representation in administrative and state court proceedings.

QUALIFICATIONS 

NDS is looking for law student interns with a demonstrated commitment to civil defense and social justice issues. In addition, the internship requires energy, enthusiasm, a commitment to excellence and an unwavering commitment to clients. Preferred qualifications:

  • Have completed at least 1 year of relevant legal education;
  • Have completed clinical experience or internship in criminal or civil legal services;
  • Foreign language fluency, especially Spanish.
